The number of entrants continues to grow, and there is still plenty of time for all those shooters who fancy taking part.

Re: 6 Yard MPL Postal Competition - Divisions?
Shooters may recall we did say we would look at splitting the Leader Board into divisions, in order to allow less skilled shooters to have a chance at winning.
Myself, Bob, and Graham briefly spoke about this the other night, and decided we would review this once July's results are known.
Once assigned to a division shooters will then stay in that division until the end of the competition.
Are there any thoughts/comments/or objections to this?
Kind regards,
Phil

Re: 6 Yard MPL Postal Competition - Season 1 Entrants
Well you have heard my thoughts but I shall air them here. We have a multitude of shooters using a wide spectrum of guns and some of the people using vintage Non-Target type guns don't stand a prayer of coming towards the top.
I realise that the idea of "winning" is not something some of us are trying to achieve - the "doing" is far more important. However, if we break the competition participants into, say, three groups then we would have three division leaders and a better spread of ability/gun.
Just my thoughts.

Perhaps "Sense of achievement" would have been better than winning.
The divisions in the Dorset League certainly work well, and give all abilities/pistol combinations a chance.
Kind regards,
Phil

I like the idea of giving "less skilled" shooters (such as myself) a little more encouragement

Re: 6 Yard MPL Postal Competition - Season 1 Entrants
I'm all for fair divisions.
Are the divisions to be based on gun type?
I.E. Target SSP, Target Spring, Vintage spring etc?
Or will it be solely score based going on the first round.
I can see the advantages of the former more than the latter in a fair competition of this type.
Ultimately, I am just happy to enter my old gun in a target comp no matter where I come in the ranking. Firing 180 pellets over six months and having them all count will be ample pleasure.
July can't come soon enough.

Likewise, I am not really worried as to where I come in the results table - I simply enjoy taking part!
Re: 6 Yard MPL Postal Competition - Season 1 Entrants
Maybe we should consider an LP53 section next season as well - now that would be a challenge - and the cause for a double entry !
One entry for the regular 6 yard comp and one for the LP53 sub-division 6 yard comp
One entry for the regular 6 yard comp and one for the LP53 sub-division 6 yard comp

Re: 6 Yard MPL Postal Competition - Season 1 Entrants
Indeed, the enjoyment of merely taking part is the most important aspect of the competition; that and trying to keep as many classic pistols active as possible.
The competition has potential to develop in the future, but it is early days yet.
The divisions suggestion will be reviewed after round 2, and will be based on shooters score (ability), not type of pistol.
Once assigned to a division, shooters will remain in that division until the end of the season. This should give everybody the opportunity to compete with others of equal ability.
Kind regards,
Phil

Re: 6 Yard MPL Postal Competition - Season 1 Entrants
Zooma - I'm up for an LP53 contest!
pmh - so a score based division would reflect the ability of contestants on any given pistol? I know my score would be up by a great margin if I swapped my vintage spring LP53 for my vintage SSP Compact for instance. Or down by an even greater margin if I used my old GAT (quite appealing as this thought is).
Actually, I forget, is it still allowed to change which pistol you are using for any subsequent round or do we stick to our guns?
(BTW- I've always wanted to say that with a true meaning!!! )
If we were all using the same gun - physically, actually, in person, the same gun - we would all have variable scores. Say the scores seemed to separate into three divisions, so we decide to have three sub competitions and the top scores in each sub comp would be equal first places. Great.
But if there were only three people shooting, all three would come first.
I say all this in the certain hope that my score will improve in later rounds on the same pistol. I don't intend to change.

Re: 6 Yard MPL Postal Competition - Season 1 Entrants
There is always the danger of so many diverse theoretical variations that nobody would ever be able to draw up a set of rules.
Shooters have the choice of which pistol to use and can change at any time throughout the competition.
There are shooters who could get a top score regardless of the pistol they picked up, and some who are new to competitions and are in the process of improving.
Shooting ability isn't necessarily proportionate to the gun used, but a quality gun does indeed help.
The owner of an Original Model 10 would no doubt score higher than the owner of a Webley Tempest, so a division system would help here.
Splitting the competition down further would just make this more complicated than it needs.
As already mentioned, the divisions work very well in the Dorset, and this does not take into account pistol type.
Kind regards,
Phil

Re: 6 Yard MPL Postal Competition - Season 1 Entrants
All fair points. I'm all for not overcomplicating things.
I think I'd like to reserve judgement on whether to keep to the same gun or change it depending how I do in the first round!!
It is not an over exaggeration to say that I am keenly looking forward to the results.
Which reminds me, I must get some more practise in soon.
Good shooting one and all.
